These connectors are designed to work with power supply units (PSUs) requiring 3-pin ATX plugs. These are perfect for extension cables from your PSU to your graphics card or other 3-pin cable when the standard length cable is too short (paired with male on the other side), or when you want to make a custom colored/sleeved cable. Male/Female is determined by which pins go inside the connector. In this case, female pins are used, so the connector is termed female.
